Sunday we ventured out to go hiking at Blue Hills Reservation just south of Boston. The reservation is dog-friendly as long as they are on a leash and you pick up after them. Armed with our poop bags and some water we headed out to see how Duke would do on the trails.
“Located only minutes from the bustle of downtown Boston, the DCR Blue Hills Reservation stretches over 7,000 acres from Quincy to Dedham, Milton to Randolph, providing a green oasis in an urban environment. Rising above the horizon, Great Blue Hill reaches a height of 635 feet, the highest of the 22 hills in the Blue Hills chain. From the rocky summit visitors can see over the entire metropolitan area. With its scenic views, varied terrain and 125 miles of trails, the Blue Hills Reservation offers year-round enjoyment for the outdoor enthusiast.” –Blue Hills Reservation, Mass.gov
We did a hike about a mile long, a portion of the Skyline trail. It was pretty steep but Duke did a great job, even with all the rugged terrain and rocks everywhere. We didn’t run into many other dogs on the trails but there were a few here and there. We’re thinking about getting Duke a pack so he can carry some of his things when we go on longer hikes.
We are definitely planning on returning to Blue Hills soon! Duke did wonderful in the car ride down and on the trails, making the day a great success. I imagine it is beautiful in the fall, but I hope we’ll be back before then!
